LIMBANG: Students unable to leave the country after being blacklisted by National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) are urged to immediately contact Limbang MP Service Centre to resolve the matter.

Limbang MP Hasbi Habibollah said most of them were holders of Restricted Travel Document (RTD) or blue passport.

His side initiated negotiation with PTPTN and the Immigration Department.

“The outcome of the discussion is that PTPTN wants to meet affected debtors to negotiate for the minimum condition for lifting the restriction on their RTD,” he said yesterday.

Hasbi revealed the matter had been brought up to PTPTN following outcries from debtors prevented from leaving the country.

“Due to the geography, if their RTD is restricted they cannot leave the country through Temburong District or Tedungan/Kuala Lurah borders close to Brunei,” he said, adding that he would review the name list.

The name list consists of about 50 people only.

“We failed to contact most of those no longer residing at the stated address or change of registered phone number,” he said.

He urged the debtors to update their personal details by contacting Limbang MP Service Centre at 085-213615 as soon as possible.

Hasbi said the compromise granted by the PTPTN should be reciprocated by the debtors.

“Debt is still a debt that needs to be settled. If the PTPTN can grant lenient condition, the debtors need to be responsible by settling the loan.”
