KUNAK: An elderly ‘lover’ was among among two couples arrested by Sabah Islamic Religious Affair Department (JHEAINS) here for suspected khalwat (close proximity) in an integrated operation on Wednesday.
The 61-year-old man was caught with a 55-year-old Filipina at a budget hotel, while the other couple was caught at a jetty.
Six individuals were detained under Section 57 of the Syariah Criminal Enactment 1995 for consuming alcohol during the five-hour operation which also involved the District Council and Rela.
JHEAINS officer Mardi Arifin said the elderly couple was detained after failing to prove they were married.
The other couple, aged 28 and 20, was arrested for indecent behavior, he said.
