SIBU: This year’s 14th Sibu Amateur Open golf championship is expected to be the largest golf tournament in central region with 200 golfers including those from India vying for top honors in the three-day event.

With the prestigious Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Wong Soon Kai challenge trophy up for grabs, defending champion Lee Ka Tung is expected to be the main golf ace to beat as he goes for a record 10 time in lifting the championship title.

Organised by Sibu Golf Club (SGC), the event is also participated by Sarawak’s upcoming junior golf ace Alex Tiong who however is representing South Wind Golf County Club, Kansas City of USA.

Back in Sibu for his semester break, the modest teenager is looking forward to play again at his favourite course and did not set any goals in the event which is also featuring a photography competition coordinated by the Photography Society of Sibu.

Meanwhile, SGC president Lau Kah Ding expressed satisfaction on the overwhelming response towards the event sanctioned by Sarawak Golf Association and a prelude to the upcoming Sarawak Classic golf championship to be held at Sarawak Golf Club in Kuching next month.
