KOTA KINABALU: The Sessions Court here will deliver its decision on June 18 this year on the case of a local bill collector who was charged with armed robbery.

Judge Ismail Brahim set the date to deliver his judgment on Ah Leng Thien Kin Siong, 33, at the close of the defence case yesterday. The unrepresented accused who opted to make his defence under oath was the sole defence witness.

Ah Leng allegedly robbed a male student of RM880 in cash and a cellphone valued at RM660 in front of a cyber cafe in Taman Ketiau, Putatan at 6am on Dec 10, 2011.

The accused, who was armed with a machete, was charged under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum 20 years’ jail and whipping, upon conviction. Deputy public prosecutor Nartiah F Mirchelle Sambatan called five witnesses to testify since the trial commenced on Feb 15 this year.

The court ruled yesterday that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against the accused who was called to enter his defence.
