SEPANG: The Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Customs Department and Customs Head office Intelligence Branch crippled a drug smuggling and trafficking syndicate with the arrest of a New Zealander in possession of 15.72 kilogrammes of drugs worth RM658,800.
KLIA Customs director Badaruddin Mohd Rafik said the drugs included methamphetamine, cocaine, cannabis and ketamine.
He said a three-day surveillance on a luxury condominium in the city centre led to a raid of the premises at 5pm on June 11, which resulted in the suspect’s arrest and discovery of the drugs.
“The unit was occupied by a 29-year-old male suspect from New Zealand and initial investigations revealed he has been in Malaysia for more than a year on a tourist visa,” he told reporters here yesterday.
Badaruddin said the man has been remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction. — Bernama
