Local arrested for robbing businessman of car, other items

KOTA KINABALU: Police have arrested a 45-year-old local man for robbing a businessman of his Toyota Avanza vehicle and personal items in a hotel at Kg Air here recently.

City police chief ACP Ahmad Sofi Zakaria said the suspect, a 35-year-old local man, was arrested on June 11, six days after he and two other suspects still at large robbed the victim of his handphone, RM500, documents and the Toyota Avanza.

It was believed that based on initial police investigation the victim forgot to lock the door while he was in the hotel room.

The suspects entered the room and robbed the victim of his personal belongings and fled the scene in the victim’s Toyota Avanza vehicle on June 5 around midnight, he said at a press conference at the city police headquarters in Karamunsing here yesterday.

Ahmad Sofi said acting on the police report and continuous investigation, police managed to identify and arrest one of the suspects at Kg Contoh in Petagas on June 11 around 4pm.

The arrest led police to the recovery of the Toyota Avanza in Kg Dambai, Menggatal the same day.

Ahmad Sofi said police were currently looking for the remaining two suspects.

He believes the duo would be arrested soon as police have discovered their identities.

Police are investigating the case under Section 395 of the Penal Code.
