Local woman claims trial to theft charge

KOTA KINABALU: A local woman claimed trial at the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday to a charge of stealing.

Elma Nurhasan, 36, was charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum jail of seven years and also liable to a fine, upon conviction.

The accused had allegedly stolen a bag containing several documents, keys and RM350 in cash belonging to a local man aged 35 at a lodging house in Sinsuran here at 6.30pm on June 11.

Magistrate Herlina Muse set July 19 to 20 for the trial of Elma and released her on bail of RM2,000 deposited with two local sureties, pending disposal of the case.

In an unrelated case, local Rostam Dalung, 43, received RM25 fine, in default, two days’ jail for threatening a woman.

He admitted to making a verbal threat on a woman aged 37 at a house in a village in Menggatal on June 11.

The offence was framed under Section 8 (1) (e) of the Minor Offences Ordinance which is punishable by a maximum fine of RM25 upon conviction.
