HAPPY TEACHERS’ DAY: Ibrahim and Seripah (centre) lead the teachers in cutting the Teachers’ Day cake.

MARUDI: SMK Telang Usan Parent-Teacher Association’s chairman Ibrahim Abdul Rashid said May 16 is a special day for teachers and it is the best time for students to express their respect, gratitude and appreciation to them.

“Teachers are important to every one of us, to society and to the country, for without them we will not be able to read, write or to be educated on a par with the rest of the world. They are like a candle in the night, shedding light on the path leading us to the world of knowledge.

“And truly, we must respect and appreciate teachers for their dedication and commitment to give our children the best of education. Students must realise this and must pay attention to their teachers in the classrooms.

“At the end of the day, parents and teachers are happy and proud to know that when our children leave school they have attained a certain level of education that will enable them to continue tertiary education or vocational classes to learn a skill before joining the country’s workforce, in general, to become useful and productive citizens,” said Ibrahim at the Teachers’ Day celebration organised by the students of SMK Telang Usan at the Seri Perkasa Community Hall here on Thursday.

Ibrahim reminded students to give full cooperation to their teachers, and the teachers to continue with their quality and innovative work in line with this year’s Teachers’ Day theme ‘Guru Inovatif melonjakkan Transformasi Pendidikan Negara’, to produce skilled and excellent human capital.

The events also announced the awards to several teachers who had performed beyond their duties, such as the Guru Permata award won by Ahmad Saiful Abdul Rahman (male category) and principal Seripah Azizah (female category).

Guru Penampilan Terbaik award went to Ustaz Faria Mahbol and Normasani Yaacob. The most sporting teachers award went Nasir Mohammad and Chai Sin Yen, while the Idola award went to Firdau Aziz and Chan Kin Wei.

Among those who spoke at the function was Seripah.
