Still time to enjoy jazz festival tonight

KKJF performers set for another night of musical delight.

KOTA KINABALU: The sixth Kota Kinabalu Jazz Festival (KKJF) is on again and tonight will mark the last of the two-day performance by a total of 13 bands from the United States, Indonesia and Malaysia.

So city folks who had missed the first day performance could still catch the show by heading towards the Sutera Harbour Marina, Golf and Country Club tonight at 7pm and be entertained by the performances of Johnny Rodgers Band from New York City and Indonesian singer, Rio Sidik.

Also performing tonight are Asif and Rene Jazz Band, UMS Big Band, Winnie Ho, Roger Wang Trio and Angelina Perete.

Yesterday’s performances included the SIA Jammers, 6ixband, SIA Funkyard, Rimba, Amir Yussof Acoustic Project, Juwita Suwito and Raiso.

The annual fund raising jazz extravaganza is jointly organised by the Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu (RCKK) and the Society of Performing Arts Kota Kinabalu Sabah (SPArKS).

Organising chairman, Jack Ong said that they expected 4,000 people to turn up for the event.

Meanwhile, RCKK president, Lawrence Thien said the KKJF is now a much anticipated event here.

“It is an event that showcases a variety of bands,” he said.

He added that people are now more enthusiastic about the festivity as compared to when it was started six years ago.

The people, he said, have also become more appreciative of Jazz music.
