KOTA KINABALU: A police constable sustained a broken leg in a road accident which occurred along the Coastal Highway, adjacent to the Sutera Harbour and Spa Resort early yesterday morning.

Mohd Norfadzly Abd Jalil, in his 20s, and attached to the special branch unit of the Kunak police district, was found unconscious with a broken leg inside his Honda Civic car in the 6am incident.

It is believed that Mohd Norfadzly was heading towards the city centre from Tanjung Aru when he lost control of the car before it skidded off the road and rammed into a concrete culvert.

Fire and Rescue Services personnel took about half an hour to extricate him from the wreckage and was later taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) in an ambulance.

City police chief Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Sofi Zakaria, who confirmed the incident said, the policeman was still unconscious but was reported to be in a stable condition.

“Initial police investigation believed that Mohd Norfadzly might have dozed off for a couple of seconds prior to the accident,” he said yesterday.

It was also reliably learnt that Mohd Norfadzly had just completed a course at the Sabah police headquarters in Kepayan.

The case would be investigated under Section 43 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
