Sandakan Hospital targets 10,000 pints of blood

Posted on June 17, 2012, Sunday

SANDAKAN: The Duchess of Kent Hospital (HDOK) has set a target to collect 10,000 pints of blood this year, according to its director, Dr. Supathiratheavy Rasiah.

She said that the hospital collected 9,615 pints of blood last year, out of which 1,767 pints were supplied to the hospitals in Beluran and Kinabatangan.

Rasiah made the disclosure when officiating the World Blood Donor Day, which is celebrated every June 14 and dedicated towards voluntary and non-remunerated blood donors around the world yesterday.

According to her, the demand for blood by HDOK increases every year and she is pleased that the increase is matched by its supply, through the mobilisation of blood donation drives organised by responsible organisations and donors.

In conjunction with the remembrance day, HDOK organised a blood donation campaign, resulting with 129 pints of blood collected throughout the day.
