Residents fear poor electricity might damage electronic devices — Voon

KUCHING: Residents in Matang Jaya have been complaining that they could not use their computers, television sets and other electrical or electronic appliances properly because of low (poor) electricity in the area.
PKR national women vice-chief Voon Shiak Ni said this was among the many complaints she had forwarded to Syarikat Sesco Bhd but it remains unresolved.
The other complaints, she elaborated, include streetlights malfunctioning near the 3rd Mile bazaar, which was brought up two months ago.
“We do not want to question their staff. I think the Sesco CEO should have a meeting to check what is actually happening on the ground. Maybe there is miscommunication between the management and the contractors. Maybe it is the negligence on the part of the contractors, we don’t know.
“We believe Sesco should make an effort to look into these complaints,” she told reporters here on Sunday.
According to her, Sesco should not delay servicing the complaints of consumers since it is a public utility service provider.
Taking exception to the malfunctioning lights near the 3rd Mile bazaar, she said, “The eating stalls are open at night and they are fearful of street crimes if the area is in darkness. They brought the complaints to us two months ago,” she said.
She also defended her approach of bringing up such matters to the media.
“We do not bring all complaints we receive from the ground to the press.
“But if we think we have given reasonable time and there is still no positive response, we have to bring these issues to the media. I hope the authorities understand,” she said.
