Construction worker found dead with gunshot wounds

KOTA BAHARU: A construction worker was found dead believed from gunshot wounds, at a housing project site in Pengkalan Chepa here, on Sunday night.
Kota Baharu police chief ACP Azham Othman said Mamat Omar was found dead in front of the storeroom by project site supervisor Azizul Izwan Abdullah, 32, at 11.35pm.
Mamat,58, from Kampung Simpangan, Tumpat only started work as a carpenter atthe project site two months ago.
“Investigation found gunshot wounds on the right cheek, neck and back of the head. However, no spent cartridge was found at the scene. We believe that a revolver was used,” he said in a SMS message to Bernama here yesterday.
“During the incident, the victim was wearing a sarong, black roundneck t-shirt and a pair of slippers.”
Azham said witnesses who live at the project site claimed hearing a loud bang three times but did not realise they were gunshots.
“Police are tracking down the suspect. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of Penal Code for murder,” he added. — Bernama
