Jailed for possessing stolen laptop

MIRI: A foreigner was yesterday sentenced to six month’s jail for possessing a stolen laptop.

He is to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest.

Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles said this was after considering the accused’s guilty plea, facts of the case, seriousness of the offence, and for the interest of the public.

Ramli, 24, from Pontianak, Indonesia was charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code which prescribed a five months’ jail or fine, or both upon conviction.

The accused was dishonest and had received or kept the stolen item, a laptop belonging to Yatanzian Yap.

Ramli committed the offence with two accomplices at Imperial Mall here at 4.25pm on June 9.
