KUALA LUMPUR: Seberang Jaya 2 in mainland Penang recorded an air pollutant index (API) of 101 yesterday morning, the only area with an unhealthy API as at 11am yesterday.

Forty-four other areas recorded moderate readings while the air quality in five other areas was good, out of the 51 air quality monitoring stations of the Department of Department (DOE).

According to the update posted on the DOE website, no area in the Klang Valley recorded unhealthy API as at 11am.

The API classification is as follows: 0-50 (good), 51-100 (moderate), 101-200 (unhealthy), 201-300 (very unhealthy) and 300 and above (hazardous).

It was previously reported that the declining air quality in the Klang Valley was caused by the haze coming in from across the border from Sumatra, Indonesia. — Bernama
