Auni Gang’s criminal activities come to a halt after arrest

Posted on June 20, 2012, Wednesday

KUALA LUMPUR: Their detention under the Emergency Ordinance did not deter four members of the ‘Auni Gang’ as they returned to their old tactic of robbing their victims in their cars at the traffic lights.

Sentul police chief, ACP Zakaria Pagan said four members of the gang were released only two months ago, after which they started recruiting new members to carry out a spate of 16 robberies since May.

However, he said their criminal activities came to a halt when police nabbed all members of the gang on Sunday in Segambut and Damansara.

“The dragnet on the group members aged between 20 and 30 began with the arrest of the mastermind at 5.30pm on Sunday while he was riding a motorcycle at a petrol station in Segambut,” he told reporters, here, yesterday.

Following that, seven more members were detained on the same day at a house in Damansara.

Zakaria said police recovered valuable items of victims including handbags, jewellery and mobile phones as well as spark plugs used to break the victims’ car window.

He said police also seized three motorcycles used in the gang’s criminal activities in Ampang and Mont Kiara.

He said all of them were being remanded for four days to facilitiate the investigations into their gang robbery and armed robbery cases. — Bernama
