Manager charged with distributing banned book

KUALA LUMPUR: Store manager, Nik Raina Nik Abdul Aziz, 36, was charged in the Syariah High Court here yesterday with distributing the book ‘Allah, Kebebasan dan Cinta (Keberanian untuk menyelaraskan kebebasan dengan iman)’ by Irshad Manji.
She was charged with distributing and selling the book which contravene Islamic law at Borders bookstore, Lot T-216B, Level 3, The Gardens Mall, Mid Valley City, between 8.41pm and 9.45pm on May 23.
The charge under Section 13 (1) of Syariah Criminal Offences Act (Federal Territories) 1997 carries a fine up to RM3,000 or jail up to two years or both, upon conviction. — Bernama
