KUCHING: Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the state are encouraged to implement Value Stream Mapping-lean (VSM) management in their companies to improve efficiency.

Deputy director-general Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) Mahmud Ahmad Fadzil said VSM management introduced by MPC was an effort to apply and acculturate continuous improvement in organisations and companies.

“We want to introduce this tool to companies to help them improve their organisational system and promote positive working values among their workers,” he said when opening the VSM management course at a leading hotel here yesterday.

Mahmud said that this tool would help companies to achieve higher productivity, quality and increase their innovations.

“With this tool, they can have positive impact on the products and services that are being offered, thus meet the need and demand of their customers,” he explained.

The lean management tool is also useful in helping the companies to use their existing sources with more efficiency so that waste can be minimised.

“At the end of the day, we want to see these companies become as competitive as other multi-national and international companies out there,” he said.

The tool is used widely by many multi-national and international companies including Toyota.

Meanwhile, representatives from 11 SMEs in Sarawak received offer to join the intervention MYKE 2012 programme organised by MPC. The VSM management course was held from June 19 to June 20.
