Basketball tourney calling for entries

KUCHING: The Kuching Division Basketball Association (KDBA) will be organising the annual Kuching Open and Non-Chinese Basketball Championship at MBKS Indoor Stadium in Pending from July 4.

Apart from using the championship as a venue to select cagers to represent Kuching at the Sarawak Inter-Division Basketball championship in Bintulu in the middle of August, other objectives are to enhance ties among basketballers, improve the standard of basketball and getting the people especially youths to be involved in healthy sports activities.

The competition will be using the latest international basketball rules and regulations and each team shall have a minimum of 12 players.

It is open to all basketball enthusiasts, community bodies, companies, colleges and schools.

Entry fees per team for men are RM500 and RM100 for women while the entry fees for Non-Chinese team is RM400.

Closing date is June 29 while the team managers meeting will be held on the same day at 7:30pm, at Sarawak Basketball Association Training Stadium, Seng Goon Garden.

Entry forms are obtainable from Starry Sports Recreational Centre at Tabuan Jaya Shopping Centre or call Raymond Teo at 013-8030087/Voon Soon Leong at 012-8867722.

Meanwhile, organisers of the MBKS Community Event 2012 3-On-3 Basketball Championship are calling for entries to the competition that will be held at Tabuan Jaya basketball court on June 24.

Those interested in taking part can download the forms from www.mbks.gov.my or contact MBKS at 082-354255, or call Lim Kaa Kuan at 013-8026759.

Entry to the event is free and the closing date is June 22.

The championship is divided into Boys Under-18, Boys/Girls Under-15, and Boys/Girls Under-12 categories, with RM200 to be awarded to the champions.
