SIBU: Democratic Action Party (DAP) and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) are still negotiating seat allocations for the remaining five parliamentary seats in the state for the coming general election.

PKR Lanang branch chairman George Chen said the seats were Miri, Stampin, Lanang, Sri Aman and Mas Gading.

“However, we’re leaving it to the central leadership to decide,” he told a press conference at PKR Lanang office in Pedada Road here yesterday.

PKR and DAP are component parties of the opposition front – Pakatan Rakyat (PR).

According to Chen, the state’s PKR chairman Baru Bian had said that his party would contest in 12 to 19 seats of the 31 parliamentary seats in the state.

DAP had announced that it was eyeing 12 to 15 seats, he said.

On Kanowit seat which the DAP had earlier expressed interest to contest, Chen confirmed that the seat had been allocated to PKR.

“I am very sure it is going to be a one-on-one fight between Barisan Nasional (BN) and PR in Kanowit,” he said.

Chen also said they would fight Sarawak Workers Party in seats especially those six seats currently held by Parti Rakyat Sarawak. “SWP is definitely a pro-BN party but there are pros and cons to the whole thing as far as we are concerned. It can split our votes or BN’s.

“This means that we have to work extra hard. We are nevertheless ready,” he said.

Also present at the press conference was PKR Kanowit secretary Thomas Laja.
