SIBU: A senior citizen found wandering barefooted at Alan Road on Wednesday was brought home by family members yesterday.

Sindu Mulai, 72, was found by a passer-by searching for something by the roadside and the drain at 8.30pm on Wednesday.

She told the passer-by she was looking for her child. The passer-by then called a Rela member, who later alerted Dudong assemblyman Yap Hoi Liong.

When informed, policemen from Lanang police station arrived, but the woman refused to get into the police car until they told her they would bring her to her child.

She was then given bread and drinks at the police station.

When she woke up yesterday morning, she remembered she had a daughter who was a cleaner at Wisman Sanyan.

The police got in touch with the daughter, Dara Undar, and an arrangement was made for Sindu’s son to go to the police station to bring his mother home yesterday afternoon.

Dara said although her mother was missing for three days, it did not prompt her to lodge a report because her mother would return home every time she went out.

Sindu has two daughters and a son, Antin Undaf. She stays with Antin at a hostel in Taman Indah.

Meanwhile, Yap said cases of senior citizens missing from home had become a cause for grave concern.

He recalled one recent incident in which Chia Muk Chai, who was reported missing, was later found dead.

“It’s a social problem that warrants the attention and concern of all quarters,” he said.
