Businessman loses RM400,000 to masked robbers

JASIN: Five masked robbers armed with machetes and knives broke into a businessman’s house in Taman Pahlawan, Merlimau here on Thursday and drove away his BMW 5 Series car with other valuables worth RM400,000.
Acting Jasin police chief DSP Shahidi Abdullah said in the 6.50am incident, only the businessman’s wife and their four children aged between seven and 18 were in the house.
He said the businessman was on a business trip to Johor Baharu since Tuesday.
“During the incident, the businessman’s wife was preparing the children to go to school in their bedroom and did not realise that the robbers had broken into the house,” he told a press conference at Jasin police headquarters here yesterday.
He said one of the suspects had also kicked open the bedroom door and held the victims at knifepoint while his accomplices ransacked the house.
All suspects, believed to be Indonesian nationals, fled the scene in the victim’s luxury car, together with jewellery worth RM20,000, three laptop computers, nine mobile phones and cash of RM500, Shahidi said.
He said the suspects had also seized the closed circuit television (CCTV) tape recorder from the house.
Shahidi said efforts were being mounted to track down the suspects. — Bernama
