Marlin House defend title in SMK Luar Bandar Miri sports meet

MIRI: Marlin House defended its title in SMK Luar Bandar Miri’s 31st annual sports meet held at the school’s football field recently.
The victorious team collected a total 886 points from the 21gold, 20 silver and 26 bronze medals its athletes won in their respective events while its closest rival, the Komodo team collected a total of 873 points and third place was won by the Hornet team with 805 points.
The best athlete in the boys category was awarded to Vickester Markeyson from Marlin House who won four gold medals in 200m, 100m, 4x100m and 110m hurdle while the best girl athlete was awarded to Doris Senaun from Hornet team. Doris captured three gold medals in long jump, high jump and 4x100m relay.
The winners received their prizes from the school’s principal, Marcus Gau Liang.
Earlier in his speech, Marcus praised the athletes for their high sporting spirit and congratulated the winners.
He said that the sports meet is one part of the school’s Healthy Lifestyle Programme which is aimed to bring about a holistic and integrated development of individuals in terms of their intellectual, spiritual, emotional and physical growth in line with the National Education Philosophy.
A total of 558 students competed in 98 field and track events in the two-day sports meet.
Among those present were the Chairman of the school’s parent-teachers Association (PTA) Redzuan Ahid and vice chairman of PTA, V.P. Govindasamy.
