KUALA LUMPUR: Releasing alien animal species in the national ecosystem can destroy habitats and threaten local animal species through the struggle for food, area and other resources.
Wildlife and National Park Department (Perhilitan) in a statement yesterday said alien animal species must be controlled through various means including in their keeping and import.
“The release of the exotic animals can take place deliberately or otherwise. It is worrying when they are purposely released by their owners when they are incapable or fed up of looking after them.” — Bernama
