Sarawak desperate to end losing streak

PLEASE, JUST GO IN THE NET!: Sarawak’s Guy Bwele gestures with the ball as the Crocs find it hard to score against Perak.

KUCHING: Fewer sides have endured a tougher season than Sarawak in the Malaysia Super League (MSL) as the Crocs have slumped to 10th place in the table with just one win in six matches.

The Crocs’ campaign is starting to show signs of crumble amid the predicament of having a long crock list.

Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) president Datu Sudarsono Osman was disappointed by his side’s recent run of four straight losses.

The Crocs last victory was a 1-0 home victory over arch-rivals Sabah in May which was played behind closed doors as Sarawak was then serving a stadium ban.

“The defeat put us in a precarious position and now more important than ever, every player and coaches must have self-belief. The team must have confidence themselves as the self belief and confidence will enhance the players talents and the team’s chance of success,” he said.

Sarawak’s poor run has come as a shock to Sudarsono who before the season regarded his side as potential mid-table finishers as they aim to remain in Malaysia’s top flight after winning promotion in 2011.

He is especially hopeful that the Crocs’ two Cameroonian import signings can drag them out of the quagmire with Guy Bwele’s form especially important to their success.

Joel Epalle on the other hand has not enjoyed a good start to his Sarawak career since joining the team early this year, as he is constantly on the crock list just like his predecessor Kalle Sone.

With five matches to go, Sarawak is in dire need to stop the slide. With the elusive Malaysia Cup still too distant a realistic target, Sarawak needs to save their MSL campaign as it is the fans’ expectations after being knocked out of the FA Cup by Kelantan early this season.

League survival this season is what the passionate fans are hoping for. They do not want Sarawak to be a one season wonder.
