Tawau Hakka Association approves contribution for school

TAWAU: The Tawau Hakka Association resolved to contribute RM350,000 towards the development of the Sabah Chinese High School (SCHS) during an extraordinary general meeting yesterday.

The meeting was specifically held to discuss the proposal made by the association’s president, Datuk Lim Yen Ngiap, to contribute RM350,000 to SCHS towards the purchase of a piece of land near to the school.

After the proposal was put to vote, the motion was carried with 43 members supporting and 14 members against.

The founder of the association, Datuk Hiew Nyuk Ying, who supported the proposal, said the school had produced many talented and educated Chinese youngsters and 80 per cent of them are of the Hakka group.

Hiew also urged the association to play its role in correcting any social imbalance and inadequacies.

Meanwhile, Tan Sri Liew Yun Fah expressed hope for the people to cooperate in protecting the rights and welfare of the Hakka clan and the other Chinese dialectic groups.
