BELURAN: A man employed by a plantation in Telupid has allegedly killed his mentally impaired son whom he claimed to resemble an animal in their home on Sunday night.

Beluran district police chief Deputy Superintendent Sivanathan A/L R. Velautham said the mentally impaired victim, identified as Nasrul, 24, died from serious injuries sustained to his eyes and face.

The 44-year-old suspect claimed to have seen his son’s face to resemble that of an animal.

Police were informed of the incident and apprehended the suspect, who made no attempt to escape.

Velautham said the suspect had dragged the victim into the house before stabbing him in the eyes and face with a broomstick.

After the victim died, the suspect bathed him with the water of eight young coconuts, said Velautham.

The suspect realised the next day that the ‘animal’ he claimed to have killed was actually his son.

The suspect is currently remanded in custody for investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which provides for the mandatory death penalty, upon conviction.
