Cheras Umno hits out at PAS over general election fuss

KUALA LUMPUR: Cheras Umno yesterday hit out at PAS for creating a fuss that the next general election will be held during the September-October Haj season.
Its head, Datuk Syed Ali Alhabshee, said it was clearly an attempt by PAS to tarnish Umno’s reputation and image.
It had never crossed the mind of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who is also Umno president, to consider holding the 13th General Election when Muslims are away on pilgrimage in Mecca, but the opposition is making a fuss about this, he said in a posting on the Cheras Umno Division blog.
“The opposition claim that holding the elections during the Haj season is contrary to Islam and that postponing the pilgrimage to vote in the elections is permissible are all dirty propaganda by PAS,” he wrote.
Syed Ali said PAS gathered news off the streets to be turned into political capital.
He also said that Najib would take into account all aspects when calling the next general election, which is due by April next year. — Bernama
