KUCHING: A total 7,069 families involving 43,267 victims of droughts in Sarawak have received aid from the Welfare Department (JKM).

Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Alfred Jabu, who is also State Disaster Aid Management Committee (JPBBN) chairman , said 1,887,267 litres of water supply had also been given out by JKM.

“Although, action in the management of disasters related to drought and haze had been carefully implemented and monitored, the preparedness and response of every department and agency involved must be upgraded to reduce negative impact on the people,” he said in a statement, here, today.

Following a meeting of Sarawak JPBBN yesterday, he said the enforcement on the ban on open burning in Sarawak should be implemented firmly by all all enforcement agencies. — BERNAMA
