Education, Sassy Medic dominate at Kesdar Serian futsal final

PASSING SHOT: One of the highlights during the women’s final of the recently concluded Serian District Recreational and Social Club (Kesdar) Inter-Department futsal championship where Sassy Media narrowly beat defending champions Kesdar 2–1.

SERIAN: Education A futsal team emerged champion in the recently concluded Serian District Recreational and Social Club (Kesdar) Inter-Department futsal championship after beating Giat Mara 2–0 through a penalty shoot-out final held at Serian Indoor Stadium over the weekend.

Both teams were level at 2-2 after fulltime but it was Giat Mara who drew first blood and enjoyed a 2-0 lead before the breather.

Education A players soon settled down and regained their composure to equalise in the last 10 minutes before the whistle with goals from Syamsul Ali and David Landen.

After the equaliser, both sides failed to change the score sheet even after extra time and forcing the match’s winner to be decided through penalty kicks.

In the women’s final, Sassy Media narrowly beat defending champions Kesdar 2 – 1 with goals scored by Winifred in the 13th minute and Hartini in the 20th minute.

Coming in third place was Giat Mara team who thrashed Pertanian 4-0 while the third place in men’s category saw Education B edging Medic 2-1.

Champions and first runner up from men’s and women’s categories took home cash RM800 and RM500 respectively. Winners in third and fourth placings walked away with cash RM400 and RM200 plus trophies and medals.

Deputy Foreign Minister, who is also Serian Member of Parliament Datuk Richard Riot Jaem officiated at the closing cum prize giving ceremony while earlier on, the tournament was kicked off by Tarat state assemblyman Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn.

Sagah in his speech urged the participants to actively take part in sports in order to serve the public effectively.

“It is inline with the 1Malaysia ‘Peoples first, performance now’ slogan, civil servants have to be healthy in order to discharge
their services to their client efficiently, thus are productive to the nation,” he said to the teams which consist of 12 for the men’s category and four in the women’s category.
