Police cripple carjacking syndicate, seven suspects detained

Posted on June 29, 2012, Friday

KUALA LUMPUR: Police believe they have crippled the ‘Geng Hong’ syndicate believed to have been actively involved in carjacking and house break-ins, with the arrest of seven suspects in Genting Highlands, Pahang and Cheras here on June 8 and 14.

Cheras Police Chief ACP Mohan Singh Tara Singh said five suspects were detained and two BMW, a proton Savy, a Honda Odyssey and a Honda Civic car were seized together with a lap top, hand phones, car keys and tools used for breaking into houses.

“The five suspects comprising three men and two women were detained in Genting Highlands on June 8, before two more members of the syndicate were detained in Cheras on June 14,” he told reporters here yesterday.

Mohan said police believe the arrest of the seven would be able to solve at least 17 robbery and carjacking cases in Cheras, Brickfields, Kajang and Gombak.

The modus operandi of the syndicate is to break into houses when owners are away and escape with valuables and any car parked in the house compound. — Bernama
