KUCHING: The inaugural Night Chase run has so far attracted 600 runners including 21 physically disabled persons who will be taking part in the first-ever night running event to be held on July 7.

The starting and finishing of the run will be at the Kuching Integrated Recreational Centre (KIRC) behind Civic Centre of Jalan Taman Budaya and 300 cyclists are also expected to participate in the 5km-long Fun Bicycle City Night Ride.

According to the organising committee chairman, Dato Patrick Liew the run is divided into 5km and 10km categories for men and women where it is a part of the ‘777 Events of Activities” jointly organised by Conqueror’s Vision Sdn Bhd and a youth lifestyle Internet portal ‘ouryouth.my’.

Although the closing date is today but the organisers are still welcoming last minute entries even at the venue before the run starts.

“We expect the total number of runners to be around 800 but hopefully it can rise up to 1,000 once several corporate bodies are coming in to join the fun,” he said of the run and cycling event which will have all the participants wearing florescent ‘glow rings’ which literally will make them glow as they run or cycle.

Meanwhile, a well known food manufacturer Yeo Hiap Seng and isotonic drink brand H-Two-O have come forward as main sponsors for the run while Lea Sports Centre and Danawa are the co-sponsors.

The total prize money for the whole event is RM8,240 and other exciting activities will also be held at KIRC such as volleyball, basketball, futsal, sepak takraw and skateboarding before the flagging off of the run and cycling.

Land Development Minister Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing is expected to flag off the participants and visitors to the event can also lookfoward to winning a six-feet-high giant hamper during a Guess and Win competition taking place there. Bands such as Urban Cowboy, Eleven 51, Polar, Zdneosaber and United Kids of Oi will be there to entertain the crowd at the newly completed Grand Stage while My.fm radio team will also play a friendly game with the winning team of the basketball competition.

Those interested can get more information at http:www.ouryouth.my or its Facebook page and the entry forms are available at KIRC or Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA) clubhouse.
