USM student among three people detained over fake academic papers

GEORGE TOWN: A Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) student was among three people detained by police to help investigate the case of fake academic papers.

A Penang police spokesman said the three comprising a man and two women were detained in a special operation by a police team in Kampar, Perak last night.

The raid following public tip-off and intelligence also found computer equipment believed used to produce fake academic papers.

Preliminary investigation showed that they produce fake diploma, bachelor’s and master’s degree from USM.

According to the spokesman, the suspects were believed to have sold the fake academic papers to certain parties.

Meanwhile, North East district police chief ACP Gan Kong Meng when  contacted confirmed the raid adding further investigation was underway.

He said the three suspects were remanded at North East district police headquarters to assist investigation. — Bernama
