MIRI: The Education Ministry is disappointed with the Public Works Department (PWD) for the delay of two months to complete the new block of building and surau for Sekolah Menengah Sains (SMS) Miri.

Its deputy minister Dr Mohamad Puad Zarkashi said several excuses had been given for the delay such as wiring problem and shortage of workers. The RM10.9 million project should have been completed two months ago.

“What is even more disheartening is that the completion of the project might be further delayed as there is already an application to extend the construction period due to problems faced by the implementing agency,” he said after a visit to SMS Miri Monday.

“I’ve visited this school four times with the last time in January. I hope this project will not be categorised as an ailing project,” said Mohamad Puad, who hopes the project will be ready by this September.

The project commenced last November after the cancellation of a proposal to transfer the teachers and students of SMS Miri to SMK Tinjar following objection from parents, teachers, students and local politicians. -Bernama
