MIRI: It is high time dilapidated SK Syed Othman is rebuilt.
Deputy Education Minister Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi approved a short term allocation of RM100,000 to solve its problems during his visit to the primary school in the city centre yesterday.
Some buildings were leaking with damaged and rotten wooden floorboards.
As it is not fit to be a school in the city centre, the school’s alumni, parent-teacher association (PTA) and Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Sri Peter Chin through his political secretary Datuk Sebastian Ting have asked for a new block.
“The school is in dilapidated condition. I have asked my officials to take pictures and make a comprehensive report because the school had not been included in the 10th Malaysia Plan. I also asked the development unit to prepare a comprehensive report so the construction of the new blocks could be given priority,” Puad said.
He commented that the school’s rebuilding, or building a new block was a long term plan, so urged the development section to provide a comprehensive plan for consideration during the next meeting of the physical audit committee. They would find whether it could be included in the third Rolling Plan of the 10th Malaysia Plan.
“It is right for the school to be rebuilt to replace the existing wooden block. I sympathise with the teachers as the classroom is congested and uncomfortable. One of the aspects we focus on to alleviate the burden of teachers is for them to work in a more comfortable environment,” he said.
