Pkr leaders face third charge over Bersih 3.0 rally

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali and Rembau PKR Division chief Badrul Hisham Shaharin were yesterday slapped with another charge in the Sessions Court over their participation in the Bersih 3.0 rally here on April 28.

The trio already face two charges in connection with the gathering.

Anwar, 64, Mohamed Azmin, 48, and Badrul Hisham, 34, pleaded not guilty today to the charge of abetting R Tangam, G Rajesh Kumar and Farhan Ibrahim in violating an order of a magistrates’ court dated April 26 which prohibited any gathering in the Dataran Merdeka area between April 28 and May 1.

Judge Mahmud Abdullah set Sept 3 for mention of the case. The court also set the same date for mention of the case against Tangam, Rajesh Kumar and Farhan, which came up for mention yesterday.

Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Ishak Mohd Yusoff told the court the prosecution would bring one more charge against Anwar, Mohamed Azmin and Badrul Hisham.

On May 22, Anwar, Mohamed Azmin, and Badrul Hisham pleaded not guilty to a charge of participating in a street protest in violation of an order issued by Magistrate Zaki Ashraf Zubir prohibiting any gathering at Dataran Merdeka between April 28 and May 1.

They were charged with committing the offence between 2.30 pm and 3 pm on April 28 along Jalan Tun Perak here.

The trio had also pleaded not guilty to another charge of conspiring with Tangam, Rajesh Kumar and Farhan by instigating them to remove the metal barricades at Jalan Raja here on the same day. — Bernama
