KUCHING: The State Islamic Complex at Jalan P Ramlee is expected for completion by October this year.

As of yesterday it was 89 per cent complete, said Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Islamic Affair), Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman.

Daud said the general structure of the RM100 million building was almost complete with contractors doing the final touchup.

“Despite being behind schedule due to several design amendment, we are confident that tenants of the building can occupy it by February next year,” Daud said when met at the construction site yesterday.

The delay, he said, had pushed the completion date from February to October but technical changes made would give a better final outcome.

He revealed that two stories of commercial lot featuring 74 retail lots open for tenancy on the first and ground floor of the building had been taken.

“The rest of the floors will be for Islamic-related agencies in the state, a library, and the district and residence’s office which will be relocated away from its current building,” he elaborated.

The State Islamic Complex located on a 2.07 acre land has modern contemporary design combined with Islamic and local concept for its interior and exterior design. Also present were State Islamic Council president Datu Putit Matzen and Sarawak Baitulmal Fund (TBS) general manager Abang Shebli Abang Senusi.
