Call to help widen access road

NEEDS WIDENING: A school van travels towards the school while passing a lorry coming from the opposite direction. The van had just passed the ‘difficult’ part of the road.

KUCHING: A parent of school-going children yesterday requested for assistance from the authorities concerned to widen the road leading to SMK Tun Abdul Razak (TAR) at Tapah near here.

Several sections of the two-kilometre access road were quite narrow taking into account that most of the time, school vans have to travel at the side of the road in order to give way to lorries coming from the opposite direction, said YF Thian yesterday.

“It would not be a problem if the roadside is hard ground but many parts along that stretch are watery and /or muddy. Before any untoward incident happens, it would be better to harden these roadsides with stones or better still widen the road itself,” he told The Borneo Post.

MUDDY TRAIL: The poor condition of the road side which must be addressed promptly by relevant authorities.

“The worst part is that the school vans would have to give way to lorries most of the time. They rarely give way to smaller vehicles whenever these two types of vehicles pass each other on that road. Therefore, the school vans would have no choice but to travel along the side of the road,” Thian lamented.

He pointed out that school-going children would be late for school if their school vans were suddenly stuck by the road side causing precious time to be wasted.

He then complained that the situation had been going on like that for over a year. SMK TAR caters for more than 1,600 students and around 100 teachers he said adding that parents and teachers would appreciate it very much if the relevant authorities could tackle the problem promptly.
