PENAMPANG: An ex-convict may face the death penalty by hanging after police found more than 900 grams of numerous drugs valued at more than RM38,000 in a raid here recently.

Police nabbed the suspect, a 40-year-old local man, in his apartment at Beverly Hills Phase III on Monday around 6.25am.

District police chief DSP Ratan Kumar Singh said police found 740.85grams of ketamine, 206.2 grams of cannabis and 166 ecstasy pills in the room of the suspect.

“This is the biggest seizure by police in Penampang so far for this year,” he told at a press conference at the Penampang police headquarters yesterday.

According to Ratan, the raid was carried out following a tip-off and continuous police surveillance.

He said initial police investigation showed that the seized ketamine was estimated at RM31,000, the cannabis at RM1,500 and the ecstasy pills around RM6,000.

The suspect, who also had previous criminal record under the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, tested positive for drugs, Ratan said.

He said the case would be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries a death penalty.
