Malaysia fail to qualify for U22 AFC Cup Finals

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia failed to gain automatic qualification to the finals of the Under-22 AFC Cup competition after losing 1-2 to Myanmar in their final Group G match at at the Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon Tuesday.
The result put Malaysia in the third place in the group with nine points while Myanmar finished second with 13 points.
South Korea, who had earlier defeated Vietnam 2-0 at the Aung San Stadium, Ho Chi Minh City, topped the group with the same points as Myanmar but with a superior goal difference.
The top two teams of the seven groups in the qualifying round automatically qualify for the finals.
Though difficult, Malaysia, coached by Ong Kim Swee, still have a chance to make the cut as the final will see 16 teams in action, with one place reserved for the hosts and the other the top third placed finisher among the seven groups. — BERNAMA
