State JPJ ready to retain title

SIBU: The State Road Transport Department (JPJ) is ready to defend their national football champion title which they won during the Malaysia JPJ Sports Carnival in Johor last December.

Its director, Ibrahim Othman, said efforts to strengthen their squad are in progress, including identifying top players.

According to him, all players in action state-wide at the state-level JPJ sports carnivals would be monitored and assessed.

“We will go all out to retain the champion title won last year and our team needs good players. Only the best players would be chosen to don the State JPJ Team jersey,” he said when officiating at the opening of the State-level JPJ Sports Carnival held in Kanowit recently.

The two-day event was participated by 300 athletes representing four Zones, with a total of 12 events contested.

Apart from football, Ibrahim said, JPJ Sarawak would also target to win other events including badminton and volleyball at the national-level championships this year.

“I hope we will be able to win as many events during the national championships this year. I am confident we could make it happen,” he added.

Meanwhile, Sarawak JPJ public relations officer Albert Clement announced that the Sarawak JPJ contingent would send about 80 athletes to compete in 13 events at the national level JPJ championships.
