Fake parking coupons making their rounds

TAMPERED: The tampered season parking coupon with the number ‘7’ to indicate July, even though the validity date listed below is April 30.

KUCHING: Representatives of a company in charge of issuing season parking coupons lodged a police report after discovering a tampered coupon affixed to a car here.

The report was lodged following the incident in Sungai Maong yesterday morning when an ‘inspection team’ from the company was checking parked vehicles to detect fake or tampered season parking coupons.

A source disclosed the team came across a Perodua Kenari with a season coupon for April which had the number ‘4’ (for April) altered to ‘7’ to fool parking attendants into thinking the coupon was valid for July.

When the team approached the car owner, a woman, for the RM40 season parking coupon, she refused to do so even after being told she faced being issued with a summons.

“The woman said she was not afraid of being summoned, and challenged the inspection team to lodge a police report against her,” said the source, adding that similar cases were detected before.

He conceded it was difficult to detect a fake or tampered coupon by sight alone, and that it needed to be felt by hand. This is difficult as car owners would always refuse to cooperate.
