Duo jointly charged with three counts of armed robbery

KOTA KINABALU: Two local men were jointly charged with three counts of armed robbery at the Sessions Court here yesterday.

Syazwi Azreen Jusoh, 24, and Mohd Irwan Tandi @ Arwan, 26, who appeared before the deputy registrar of the High Court Amir Shah Amir Hassan, were charged under Section 395 of the Penal Code, which is punishable under Section 397 of the same Code.

The provision carries a jail term of up to 20 years and also liable to whipping, upon conviction.

On the first count, the duo were accused of robbing a 19-year-old boy of RM7 in cash, a cellphone and motorcycle’s key at a 24-hour shop near an apartment in Papar between 5am and 5.30am on Feb 18.

For the second charge, they were accused of robbing a 20-year-old local man of a handphone at about the same time and place.

On the third charge, Syazwi and Mohd Irwan were accused of robbing the shop of RM208.80 in cash and 13 boxes of cigarette at about the same time.

The duo were armed with a machete during the alleged robbery.

Amir Shah who sat as a Sessions Court judge set Aug 27–28 this year for the trial of Syazwi and Mohd Irwan who were ordered to be further remanded in custody pending their trial.

Deputy public prosecutor Wan Azwan Aiman Wan Fakhruddin prosecuted.
