Posted on July 6, 2012, Friday
KUALA LUMPUR: The much-talked about Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) will kick off on July 12 with an official launch followed by three days of workshops and stage performances in Kuching.
Before that, however, a special preview will be held at the Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus in Subang Jaya on July 10 and 11 for audiences to experience the magic of the festival firsthand.
The preview will highlight the performances of HATA and Èankišou. HATA is a nine-piece band with musicians from Malaysia, Korea, Taiwan and Turkey.
Èankišou is one of the top world music bands in the Czech Republic and their most recent album made 17th place in the World Music Chart Europe in November last year.
“This preview is a glimpse of what to expect during the Rainforest World Music Festival 2012” said Dato’ Rashid Khan, chief executive officer of Sarawak Tourism Board (STB).
“This festival has made a name for itself and has been voted for the third consecutive year by Songlines, a renowned world music magazine as the 25th best international festivals. We promise a truly memorable experience for all,” he added.
Other bands performing at the festival this year are Mamadou Diabate from Burkina Faso; Le Trio Joubran from Palestine; Khusugtun from Mongolia; Raiz De Cafezal, a group of Brazilian Amazonian Indians; Oreka TX from Spain; La Zikabilo from France; String Sisters comprising fiddlers from the Scandinavian countries, Scotland, Ireland and the United States; Kanda Bongo Man from Congo; Danyel Waro from the Reunion Island and Zee Avi (US/Malaysia).
They will also be joined by Malaysian musicians like Samuel Dass and Prakash, Diplomats of Drum and our very own music from Sarawak and Rhythm of Borneo.
