SMK Methodist bags two medals in Junior Science Odyssey

SIBU: SMK Methodist scored an impressive achievement when it bagged two medals, one gold and a bronze, at the Asean+3 Junior Science Odyssey 2012 in Brunei.

The competition was themed ‘Science and the Dynamics of Tropical Rainforest’ and was divided into three areas – laboratory skills, field work and team presentation.

Malaysia sent two teams, one from SMK Methodist Sibu and another from SBP Labuan.

The SMK Methodist team was led by teacher Wong Heu King and students Christabell Wong Teen Teen, Max Ting and Alexandra Wee while SBP Labuan was led by teacher Roslan Tangah and students Aina Balqis Abdullah, Nadwatun Anis and Aneslyia Angan.

Christabell Wong bagged gold in the fieldwork project and presentation while the team took the bronze medal in the laboratory skills assessment.

Student from 124 countries took part in the competition. They included Brunei, Malaysia, Cambodia, Singapore, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, China, Korea and Sweden.

Meanwhile, SMK Methodist also obtained good results in the 1st Sarawak Regional SPM Bible Knowledge Oral Quiz held in Miri recently.

Josiah Tie Lok Teck and Christine Tzeng Hua Ying emerged first runners-up while Aileen Ling Shih emerged top scorer in the quiz.

Aileen also received the Rosie Cheah Award for being one of the top 10 scorers for two consecutive years in the postal Bible knowledge quiz organised by Scripture Union.
