Unimas best in country, among top 170 universities in Asia

KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) takes pride in being ranked among the top 170 universities in Asia.

Unimas vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Khairuddin Ab Hamid said the recent record was the best among all universities in the country.

Unimas made it to top 200 last year.

“People cannot take us for granted and people cannot simply ignore us anymore. We deserve to feel proud and to celebrate,” he said at the Unimas excellence awards ceremony at Detar Putra, Unimas here yesterday.

Khairuddin asserted that continued commitment and quality work of every academic and staff would better position the university.

“United we stand, divided we fall. We have to respect variety and unite in diversity, making this our strength at Unimas to brace for challenges to come.”

He said the excellence awards reflected not only good academic performance and staff, but the university’s capacity to produce quality human resource.

A total of 170 individuals received excellent service awards from Khairuddin during the ceremony.

He hoped they would be a role model for other colleagues to be more dedicated and productive in discharging their duties.

Forty-two staff who had served the university for 15 years received long service awards.

“All these awards are a recognition of excellent achievement besides being a symbol of innovation and quality. It is hoped that such appreciation will further motivate recipients and other staff to excel in their work.”
