Ensure balanced diet at home – Santubong MP

Posted on July 9, 2012, Monday

KUCHING: Housewifes and mothers play a major role in ensuring that food served at home for the family are healthy and of balanced diet.

Santubong MP Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said people were getting too occupied with work these days that some tend to neglect their health and were consuming unhealthy food resulting in negative side effects in the long run.

“People tend to forget how important are the food that we consume to our children’s development. They need a balanced diet, vitamins and energy to ensure they are healthy,” said Wan Junaidi.

He was speaking at the Healthy Eating Mini Carnival organised by Community Development Department (Kemas) at Kampung Bintawa Hilir yesterday.

According to Wan Junaidi, having good health was essential to everyone’s lives.

“There is no point in getting a big paycheck yet spend a major part of it on healthcare and medications due to illness, at the end of the day. This is why the government is promoting healthy lifestyle actively and urging everyone to exercise,” he
said.

He reminded everyone to monitor their food consumption especially of sugar daily as we spend more time sitting than moving around thereby use much less energy due to the emergence of better transportation and communication system.

Lauding the effort by Kemas in organising the programme, he urged everyone to learn and apply what was taught by practising healthy food preparation at
home.

Among the programmes held yesterday were demo and presentation of healthy food, children colouring contest, free medical checkup and consultation and a talk on healthy diet.

Also present were Kuching Kemas officer Tahir Abdul Rahman.
