Get your facts right, CP reminds media

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib has reminded the media not to sensationalize any news without proper facts.

He said the matter should be addressed to ensure that any news, either print or electronic, would benefit the community and the country.

“Lately, there was a case where a news was published without the actual facts coming from the police.

“I hope such matter will not happen again and the police will always give their cooperation,” he said at a dialogue with the media at the State Police Headquarters in Kepayan here yesterday.

Also present were State Deputy Commissioner of Police SAC II Datuk Tan Kok Liang and other senior police officers.

According to Hamza, information presented must be accurate to prevent negative impact on the public as well as to social and national security.

He said the police were working hard to achieve the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to reduce crime rate in the country.

He said many approaches had been implemented to make the success of ensuring security of the country.

Meanwhile, Hamza said the police and the media have their own roles to play and both parties need one another to achieve their goals.

He hoped the good cooperation and relationship between the police and the media would continue in the future.
