11 road traffic offenders fined

KOTA KINABALU: Ten men and a woman were fined a total of RM6,100 by the Traffic’s Court yesterday after they were convicted of various violations under the Road Transport Act.

Magistrate Herlina Muse imposed the fines on the accused after they pleaded guilty to their charges.

Suhaili Abu Bakar, 43, and Lu Tet Lee @ Lee Tet Lee were fined RM400 each, in default, four days’ jail, while Mohd Adam Patah, 28, Mohamad Azlan Jidin, 23, and Abdul Halim Mohd Nor, 38, were each fined RM500, in default, five days’ jail, for driving their vehicles without any road tax.

Suhaili, Mohamad Adam and Mohd Azlan admitted to riding their motorcycles without any road tax along Jalan UMS, Jalan Tun Fuad Stephen and Jalan Lok Kawi-Putatan respectively on April 12, May 8 and 9, this year, while Lu and Abdul Halim were caught driving their vehicles without any road tax along Jalan Putatan and Jalan Penampang-Lok Kawi respectively on May 10 and 11, this year.

Dunin Lais, 35, was fined RM700, in default, seven days’ jail, for committing a similar offence.

He was found driving his car with an expired road tax along Jalan Kepayan Ridge about 9.55am on July 21, 2011.

Wong Che Hao, 22, was fined RM800, in default, eight days’ jail, for failure to comply with an order issued by the Road Transport Department to have his car examined at the department’s headquarters about 8.05am on February 29, this year.

The court also fined Rozuan Hamid, 30, RM600, in default, six days’ jail, for driving a Perodua Kancil car with an expired road tax along Jalan Telipok-Sulaman at 11.20am on August 20, 2009.

Rozuan was also fined another RM400, in default, four days’ jail, for driving the same car at the same time and place without any insurance coverage.

Meanwhile, Saddam Ahmad, 21, was fined RM300, in default, three days’ jail, for using a hand phone while driving a Perodua Viva car along the Jalan Sepangggar-Indah Permai about 9.45am on March 7, this year.

The court also fined a 26-year-old woman, Fam Hui Xian, RM500, in default, five days’ jail, for overtaking from the left lane on Jalan Kolam about 8.50am on March 8, this year.

Marsarif Abdul Majid, 35, was fined RM500, in default, five days’ jail, for failing to display the ‘L’ sticker while riding a motorcycle at 9.50am on March 1, this year along Jalan Ramayah, Putatan.
