Indonesian jailed for disposing of stolen cables

KOTA KINABALU: The Magistrate’s Court yesterday sentenced an Indonesian man to two months’ imprisonment for disposing of stolen cables valued at RM1,160.

Magistrate Herlina Muse passed the sentence on Selamat Labadulu, 22, after he pleaded guilty to a charge framed under Section 414 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum jail of seven years, or with a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Selamat admitted to disposing of the cables at a shop in Putatan on July 3.

The court also ordered the accused to be referred to the Immigration Department after serving his jail term for further action.

Meanwhile, in the same court, an unemployed man will stand trial on July 16-17 this year on a charge of stealing 11 iron rods.

The 37-year-old Yunus Yusof was alleged to have committed the offence at a car park of a shopping mall in Putatan on July 6.

He was charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to 10 years or fine, upon conviction.

The court released Yunus on RM3,000 bail with two local sureties, pending disposal of the case.
